Profile Information

Are you a trained or self-taught animator?
Self-taught
Where are you located or based?
Houston, TX
Do you have an online portfolio or link to your work?
http://www.brandonray.net
What's your favorite animation (tv show, short, feature film)?
The Peanuts, Raggedy Anne and Andy's Musical Adventure
What or who influenced you to started animating?
Commander Mark started me drawing, & Charles Shultz's comics made start thinking an entire living reality can exist from one man's imagination (I love some of the Bill Millendez[sp?] cartoons).... Animated films like Unico and the Island of Magic and the Mouse and His Child left a lasting impression from my childhood, and Raggedy Anne & Andy's Musical Adventure tickled my imagination.
Do you work in the industry or create animation as a hobby?
Hobby... I do all my animated work outside my full-time dayjob. I know everyone's got a different path, but I'm trying to hold off on using my 'animated powers' for my income until I can figure out a scheme to make capital from my own productions. In the meantime, I'm just getting more and more comfortable with my own creative process.
Tell us a bit about the software and hardware used in your creative work.
Mac Pro 8-core, After Effects & PSD CS3, Toon Boom Studio, Corel Painter 9.5, Wacom Intuos, 3D Invigorator, as well as Garage Band, M-Audio Keyboard & Shure Condenser Mic (Forgot the model....)
Where has your work been showcased on television, internet, film festivals, mobile etc?
Hmmmmm... current work is just online at my website. My fledgling After Effects work was seen all virtually all the on-air station IDs, bumpers, & show intros for La Familia Network
Any projects we can look forward to seeing from you in the near future?
Return of the Commander, featuring Commander Mark Kistler himself (his first animated role... I think!?!). It's a 12-15 minute msuical, about 2/3 of the way through production.
Can you recommend an animation film or animation book that every animator should see/read?
Not for animation, but Sculpting in Time by Tarkovsky covers some great concepts on time in cinema that apply to animation as well

Best Paper People Joke of 2009

Hello fellow animators and animation fans!
This year, I've been working on kicking off an interactive weekly animated show where I take jokes that viewers submit and animate them in a paper stop-motion style. It's called Paper People Jokes. At the end of each season, there's a voting session to determine the funniest joke/joke-teller of the season. Well, the polls are now officially open and I'm trying to garner as much participation… Continue
