If you happen to be in Los Angeles on June 30th, you may want to hang out with internationally known artist Gary Baseman on his LA Bus Tour. Let Gary take you around and show you some of his favorite places in town. ABOUT THE PROGRAM Join Gary Baseman on a tour of Los Angeles landmarks meaningful to his life and career. Offered in conjunction with the exhibition Gary Baseman: The Door Is Always Open, this half-day bus tour includes a drive through Gary's childhood neighborhood; a stop at his favorite bar in Chinatown; a visit to Wacko, an influential east Hollywood art gallery that has featured Baseman’s work; and a no-host lunch at Baseman’s beloved Canter’s Deli, where his mother worked the bakery counter for more than thirty years. The excursion will include trivia contests and door prizes! Bus leaves from the Skirball Cultural Center at 10:00 a.m. and will return by 3:00 p.m. Facilitator: Jim Heimann is a Los Angeles graphic design historian, cultural anthropologist, and instructor at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. He serves as executive editor for TASCHEN America, and is the author of numerous books on architecture, pop culture, and the history of the West Coast, Los Angeles, and Hollywood. |
